I find myself in this awesome yet irritating predicament. Semi-skilled in practically all areas of art (including lego art...), yet not a professional at any of them.

Anyone share these sentiments?

i know how you feel man..its hard to be great at everything all at once. Stick to one thing and perfect it. Then move on when you feel comfortable.

I'm a jack of all trades, and I tend to try and perfect my 2D first. I'm a semi-professional (educated) Graphic Artist with degrees mostly in logo design and print atm. I'm learning video editing (not hard) and a little web design (which I've already known for a while) and will have a Digital Media degree soon for sound and video mostly.

I'm self-taught in 3D works which I rarely had time for before and only dabbled a bit but have retained what knowledge I had in it...I also made 2D games for a little bit using various engines including one I built myself. Nowhere near perfect quality but it worked none-the-less.

I suppose you could say I'm in the same boat but I am going to school to fix that and I am focusing on one area at a time.

I know exactly how you are feeling lewa. I've been around for so damn long, gained a ton of knowledge, but have never really excelled at one specific thing. If you look at my dA page you can tell. My next thing I post up there will be a Typography piece... like what the fuck?

most of the stuff you list here is somewhat related to each other - I go all over the place.
Truckdriver by trade...which means I not only drive, but check & maintain the truck/trailer, play bookeeper, puplic relations manager, scheduler, etc...
Self Taught Mechanic - and fairly good at it if I do say so myself... *winks* (now where is that winky smilie??) if it isnt too computerized, i can fix it (dont have the diagnostic tools for the newer stuff)
Know enough about computers that friends call me when they are having a problem (and if I dont know, I know people that do)
I have some formal training in both graphic arts & drafting, but never finished school
art - again, all over the place! have tried just about ALL traditional mediums including photography which led me to computer editing, etc
and then there are the "household" type things - I can do framing, drywall, electrical, plumbing - pretty much anything - and do it well enough that it would pass inspection by pros

Impressive, I thought we were just talking about graphics here, but while were on it and this is no competition...but I also have other interests such as playing Guitar, Drawing, Painting, building computers, Photography cause I believe everyone could do it and the hardware really defines the artist in that area, and on occasion I do maintenance work for the complex I live in and yes I got paid for it on the books. Sometimes I believe I have A.D.D. as well lol

LOL - maybe all us "artistic" types have ADD... hehehe

oh yeah, I sing, too - told I am good, but I dont think so (own worst critic?) I can pick out a melody on a piano, but cant really say "I play" - my younger brother got those skills

hehe - in case you all havent figured it out - I am not a "typical" female. and that is a good thing!

aww, thanks Acey.  not too sure the world could handle too many like me tho - i can be very opinionated and not afraid to say so. 

took me a long time to get where i am today - used to be pretty shy/reserved/self concious - pfft, not anymore!!
